Week 60: Make Adjustments
Back to the Aloe Vera with more color added this week.
Forth! i’ve changed the start date of my Haven Habits Workshop to 5/11.
Time estimation has never been my strength, so i find myself saying go. Then, can’t catch up with myself or inform and gather the others in time for take off. Despite building in slack time given my awareness of this tendency, i still run into my own delays.
i’m reminded of my pig tailed teenage self on the cross country sky team. In this case, i did start the race on time but when i got to the finish, all the other racers had been standing around wondering what had happened to me. All but loaded on the bus, they rolled their eyes bemused to hear my enthusiastic sharing about the amazing caves i’d stopped to observe. Big enough to drive a tractor trailer into, none of the others had seen them. They had been too focused on the track in front of them to observe the mysterious scene in their peripheral vision. i’d nearly removed my skies to explore on foot but made myself carry on.
i’ve never been keen on competition, always willing to add some adventure to my plate, explore, try out, discover along the way. Losing track of time in the interest of beauty and form, in the effort to make something just right. Yes, i do understand how deadlines can move you forward and help you hold commitments.
i admit, i didn’t give a hoot about winning or even placing in X County ski racing. i joined the team to have fun, go on adventures to ski places i’d otherwise never have seen. The ski coach was a kind and fun-loving human, not an autocratic militaristic “____”, like some other sports coaches, i’d escaped.
When something comes up that you can’t anticipate, even when you’ve built wiggle room into your plan, you may still have to make adjustments.
So i’m letting go of the finish line /start point and bumping the beginning of Haven Habits, so i can find the others who are easily teased away from a task by a quirky compelling observation/calling.
Willingness to be open and explore, a wonderful quality with gifts to discover. i’m learning to appreciate rather than feel bad about its occasional bumpy diversions.
And sometimes, there’s a reason to pull together create a bit more rhythm in the background to support the adventures out and beyond. Rhythm, another way i think about habits. Rather than routine, which feels ho mum, rhythm, like a drum beat underneath to build on. A re-frame that highlights the way good habits support new creative adventures.
My adjusted start date is 5/11/22 if there is a new groove you’d like to create.
