Wishbone Tincture

Week 48: Remedy to Help Being in Uncertainty

This was a seesaw week inclusive of several car hiccups. An almost flat tire turned out to be subzero cold temperature induced low air pressure. Frozen valves easily solved, Phew! that was a relief.

Then Friday, intending to get an oil change, my wonderful but tired little hatchback’s frame broke upon being raised by the lift. So my car is not repairable and no longer safe to drive. Initially, i was thrown by the sudden uncertainty, the disruption and anticipated expense involved in replacing it. Yikes! i was feeling life’s precariousness!

It’s never a good time for cars to give up. Yet, i new this was possible, i had been pushing its limits, my limits…  So on this cold and sunny day, i took a walk to shake out the news.

It helped, i found myself thinking of all the things i was grateful for. Not being stranded on the roadside. Or, hurt, or worse, hurting someone else if i’d had an accident after hitting a big pothole or frost heave. i’d found a great new mechanic in walking distance no less. No need to get a ride, when leaving a car for maintenance or repairs.

It’s refreshing when you can release an ouch happening and recognize that your state of mind doesn’t have to be at the mercy of circumstance.

You can choose to be with uncertainty with a open outlook rather than letting fear triggered by a sudden situation run the show.

Today, i was briefly puzzled while pondering a title for today’s post. i’ve added a lot of color to this drawing i’d earlier set aside. Then…

Thinking about the week, looking at the drawing, it occurred to me that if i made a magic potion to help with dealing with uncertainty, Wishbone Tincture would fit. It was all right there in the drawing, a quirky looking thick wishbone shape and a bottle of some golden elixir…

i hope it helps if/when you’re feeling the precariousness and discomfort that can arise with uncertainty (especially considering the collective uncertainty of the last 2 years) to imagine using your very own bottle of Golden Wishbone Tincture.

What properties would your Wishbone Elixir need to contain in order to ground and calm your fears?

Have a great week!

  1. Thank you for sharing Lisa, both the narrative and the drawing. There’s always uncertainty, but sometimes it’s a bigger presence in our daily life. I recently made a life decision that I’m pleased with, but it’s so uncertain how I’ll make it a reality. I’m taking daily steps and accepting the uncertainty in the process. That’s all that can be done. I think. Take care! -Lori

    1. Thank you for your comment, Lori. i think we’ve all had our resilience muscles strengthened in the last 2 years by the great degree of uncertainty in the larger world context. i think it adds to whatever amount each of us are experience individually at any given time. i think the key as you note so well is to accept the uncertaintly in the process and at the same time, keep taking steps. Great to hear you have made a pleasing decision, can’t wait to see what comes of it. i’ve been surfing some big waves and it’s great to feel my own resilience. Trusting the process and staying focused on enjoying the ride and magic seems to show up!
