Mischief on

the River

i did the original river cake line drawing 2020, wow 3 years ago!

i added color in 2021 and i’ve had fun sharing it for various birthday or celebratory greetings. i’ve been meaning to get back to it (and other drawings) to do some variations and complete a few details.

Today, i enjoyed the garden and the fluffy frosting like cumulus sky and returned far too late to this creative haven and made the candles pink & orange. They were all white in the last version.

i thought about using rainbow colors, imagining the golden magic pot at the end of the rainbow. Not to identify a particular identity politic, not that i have a problem with identifying with the particular view it has come to symbolize but i have concerns about the amount of virtue signaling that is happening in particular on social media. i as anyone can enjoy the feeling of connection of being part of a “tribe” yet i balk at the dangers of the shallowness of tribal affiliations that get shared with a quick visual symbol. i wonder, can we go go (deeper) on a lighter note on a river boat?

i think it’s good to question group think, to take a symbol and say something different than it’s immediate emotional cultural communication might indicate… a way of getting people to slow down and do more inquiry, to not jump to conclusions about what others think. When you capture something that works, it seems simple but…

Flipping symbolic meanings on their head tripping up entranced thinking, unconscious allegiance is a challenge to do without provoking the thing you’re trying to avoid.

Its an art i admire. i aspire to be nuanced enough to catch some beauty that graces the viewer with a wider aperture than they have previously been able to observe. Furthermore to be done in a generous loving way.

At this beyond hour, i dream on a river cake of being so skilled with language and ideas and can only offer you frosting. My wizard is asleep.

Good ride to you this fine spring week!

& a few drawings from last Wednesday April 12th at the pub.

Oh and ps…

about getting back to the other drawings. Once i finish Living the Magic Inner Haven, its long overdue time for me to get the over 30 color drawings that are at or very near completion, finished and available to purchase prints.
