Week 51: 730 Celebration
Yes, year 2 of the 730 days, was adding lots of color to these drawings. This week i’m also celebrating that my new wheels have me safely traveling with comfort and ease. A Subaru Impreza, imp for short, of course, it brought relief and a laugh…
It’s more of a computer than my last car which didn’t have a key fob. Out on my first venture, i discovered it chirped when using the fob to lock. Upon next unlocking, in an attempt to avoid the chirp, i opened the door with the key itself instead of the fob. Ooops! the car alarm began blaring. i cringed, then laughed as i quickly hit one of the fob buttons fortunately guessing correctly that it would silence the alarm. Phew!
Oh! the luddite part of me will adjust to the luxury of door openers and heated seats, just fine. No worries, i found the instructions in the manual to turn off the chirp.
The car is wonderful and i have had a stellar experience with Bill at York Street Auto. So i’m celebrating Bill and his Dad John who started the business many years ago. Bill tuned in and somehow knew better than i did, what i needed and soon found it.
It’s been the best of a “Humankind” experience.
If you haven’t read the book Humankind: A Hopeful History, By Rutger Bregman, i highly recommend it! (that link from his name, takes you to a short less than 5 minute video of Rutger introducing his book)
My car repairing and now buying experience with Bill at York Street Auto has been like one of the good stories in the book demonstrating that humans are innately wired for kindness and cooperation.
i’m happy to have a new (used but in great shape) safe, fun car with roof racks for the kayaks no less. Even more to have had a refreshingly easy experience thanks to Bill, dealing with the fact that my much loved but tired car was done.
The book Humankind has been absolute refreshment! Balm to the soul in stressful times. Cheers to Rutger Bregman for writing it!
What good fortune to have found just what you needed, an “imp” car! May this be an auspicious year in many other ways, as well. I’d never heard of that book and appreciate your recommendation.
Yes, how fun about the imp! i haven’t even finished the book yet but can already say it’s the most inspiring and freeing book i’ve read in years.
