Week 39: Genie Pool
This drawing, A Resting Place has become a Genie Pool. Final details are taking time. Thought i’d be done by now but can’t delay posting any longer. So, it will change again…
And… some musings sparked by the benevolent buffer of a Genie Pool, a mysterious place that appears, a resting, reviving space.
i had a fun conversation last night about the fixes you get into as a kid and the adults who help extract you, not by bailing you out completely, not an unhelpful potentially spoiling rescue. Instead, a near stranger creating a buffer between the harshest of consequences. So, you could get the lesson from the natural consequence without unnecessary punishment.
One story shared, was a fix simply from kid mischief of exploring boundaries and overdoing it. The other, my friends was from a misguided attempt to help adults who were in their own trouble. Oh, some youthful emotion acted upon to help without grasping the gravity of the result until it was too late. An infraction far worse than my mischief.
Good thing there were young adults not so far from their own youthful impulses and mischief to recognize a needed buffer and so provided.
Reflecting on these benevolent buffers, i am grateful for Genie who saved my butt twice actually at 13 and years later. Because of the troubling contexts in both instances, i never properly thanked her.
Hearing others stories, i have a pool of gratitude for people in our lives who we don’t know very well, basically strangers who show up, sometimes only by proximity – Gives me faith in humanity.
Can you think of a time when you unexpectedly gave or received a buffer, a pool of respite?
Thank you Magic Genie!
Happy Thanksgiving!
