Mix, Nix & Moxie Cake

Week 18: Mix, Nix & Moxie Cake

This cake is nearly baked, it might just float…

Despite considerable effort, it feels like i have only nibbled to complete a project i’ve been working on for several months. i think i’m close to finished, until i get some distance from it. Having cut a lot, upon re-reading, i am struck by how it’s still too much. i take a big breath and continue to cut and refine to find the essential form.

How do i get here?

i can be wordy, my inner chatty girl talks out loud & writes unfiltered as a way to think and discover. Early versions can become over baked, redundant, diverted explorations with gaps in the emulsification of ingredients necessary to tie it all together.

There is a lot of process; gather, measure, mix, chop, separate, sift, grate, stir, bake, whip, sprinkle, layer, frost. Oh! was that just the test bake?

Yes, there is still, that too much thing, go’n on! Muddy confused…it can be a kind of hiding…

i sometimes forget how much creative process, isn’t just having the right mix. Nix, is equally important! What must be cut to see the essence, to get to your point? Protector parts can show up as resistance, get in the way, as they aim to shield our vulnerability.

Nix can be the hardest part, to cut away, release attachments, get outside of yourself. Become a stranger to your work, so you can see it clearly. Notice the places you’re hiding, reveal your hidden gem, find the moxie.

Streams that i write are different, i find it easier to let them stand alone, unfinished, raw. i release expectations. They usually illicit a playful state in me.

To string together something bigger, coherent, mixing and nixing writing into a larger refined work that’s another kind of challenge, a Moxie Cake!

What’s enough?

What could be nixed that might reveal the gem in your Moxie Cake?
