What’s cooking in the past…
…
in the future?
Some wild thyme traveling soup in that big enamel pot, student work from 1984?
i was reminded of these (a pen drawing below and ink wash above) as i’ve recently been enjoying cooking on a similar wood cook stove. An unanticipated pleasures that came with the recent move. There is something very satisfying about cooking on a stove that is also & primarily burning to provide heat. i hadn’t imagined using it to cook. There is quite a nice new gas range. But then…
Why not? it’s already hot!
i don’t remember that satisfying nourishing feeling when i was a young adult spending time in a house with the stove above, eating often enough of the soup cooking there. i suppose the drama of my youth was distracting from such a simple sweet wonder. Now, i find it a refreshing contrast to the anesthetizing effect of the immersion of conveniences we easily take for granted in 2025.
What’s cooking next…
Thought i’d have a few more things to share & the recent disruptive spell has me shy of communicating my anticipations. i’ll let them rest, a top the oven a bit before carving up and serving.
What are you cooking up?
Below the second stove drawing from 84 & some drawings from 2 weeks ago at the pub open mic. Last Wed. drawings, i’ll post next week.
& apologies to those of you who followed the screwed up link last week and never discovered the correct page. (You can always go to the blog page and find the latest as well as past posts) i corrected it the same day but opted not to send a second email post notification.
Yes, embarrassing… & good to be humbled now and then with awkward mistakes…
Have a great week as we near the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere!
Wishing you the best on your move.
Thank you David! It has certainly been disorienting & disruptive, so i appreciate the message. Now through the toughest part, happily i can say, there are magical surprises revealing themselves, much to my delight and balancing the difficult parts of it.
